RGGI is at risk. Will you contact your legislators?

Today, the legislature unveiled its special session budget, and both the House of Representatives and the Senate will vote on Wednesday, June 9th.  The budget includes removing $3.1 million from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) fund to plug the budget gap.  RGGI supports energy efficiency measures throughout the New Hampshire, and is one of the keystones in New Hampshire’s climate change strategy.

The proposed budget sets the dangerous precedent of using funds intended for energy efficiency to meet general state funding needs.

What can you do?

First, you can attend the legislature’s public information and comment session tomorrow (Tuesday) June 8 at 1pm in Representatives Hall at the State House.

Second, you can contact your legislators and tell them to remove the RGGI raid from the budget.  The vote is scheduled for Wednesday, June 9, so please act quickly!

Some Advice: If you send an email, keep it brief and include a relevant subject line such as “Don’t Raid RGGI”

For more information CLICK HERE for the Department of Environmental Services’ RGGI website.  In particular, THIS STUDY explains why redirecting the funds could be bad for the New Hampshire economy.

Thanks for all you do.
